Number One for Puyallup & Tacoma Hotel Blogs
Love cars? Then America’s Car Museum is definitely a must-see on your next trip to Tacoma. Specially designed to both preserve and celebrate American automotive culture and heritage, the ACM facility (which includes a 165,000-sq.-ft. museum and 3.5-acre show field) is home to at least 350 cars, trucks, and motorcycles donated from private owners, corporations, and the LeMay collection. Founders Harold and Nancy LeMay helmed the largest privately owned collection of automobiles, other vehicles, and related memorabilia in the world, with over 3,000 vehicles and thousands of artifacts at the collection’s peak. Here's a look at some of the exhibits that are currently being shown at the ACM.

American Muscle: Rivals To The End

This exhibition features a number of coveted cars from this era, including a 1969 427 Yenko Camaro, 1969 Dodge Super Bee, and a 1970 Buick GSX. As the strong manufacturing economy of the 1960s fuelled a growing want for roaring V8s, a muscle car war divided fans among which brands they felt produced the ultimate muscle. Fan-focused automakers created brand loyalists in the pre-1973 oil embargo era, before skyrocketing oil prices brought engine size and horsepower figures screeching to a halt. American Muscle: Rivals To The End displays 20 cars, all of which have a unique place in American motor history. Regardless if you are a Chevy, Chrysler, or Ford fan, this unique display will take you back in time.

Ford F-Series: The Truck That Grew Up With America

This exhibit looks back at the 67-year history of the best-selling pickup truck as it grew from an agricultural tool into today’s luxury vehicle. The display is highlighted by era: the beginning, from 1948 through the 1950s; the 1960s through part of the 1990s, which marked a period of cultural change; and the late-1990s to today, when the border between work trucks and the luxury vehicles became blurry. The exhibit concludes with the most recent model, the 2015 Ford F-150, which is the first full-size pickup to use a lightweight aluminum body instead of steel.

Winter is but a distant thought here on the West Coast, with spring officially in full bloom. To mark this inspiring seasonal change, Puyallup is proud to host to the annual Daffodil Festival.
The festival officially kicked off in early February, with events taking place all over the city through April and into May. The Daffodil Parade, a town favorite and must-see for visitors to Puyallup, winds its way through Puyallup at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
The Daffodil Parade is a time-honored tradition in this area, which was home to numerous flower farmers in the mid-1900s. Today, the Daffodil farms have made way for other endeavors but the yellow blossom is still a symbol for the community itself, celebrating the people of Pierce County. This year, the parade tours through Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting with more than 180 entries, including floats, marching bands and mounted units.
Now, more Daffodilian business ... (Ahem) Here ye, here ye: The 24 Daffodil Princesses would like to welcome all princesses and their princesses-in-training to the annual Princess Tea at the Laurel Creek Manor on May 3. Tea, light snacks and favors are served under a large tent on the beautiful manor grounds at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m., and there will be dancing!
Also part of the Daffodil Festival events, the Daffodil 5K Challenge gets underway April 5 at 11:15 a.m. on W. Pioneer Avenue in Puyallup. Race by yourself or with a team for $35 per person.
For more information on any of the Daffodil Festival events happening now in Puyallup, head to their website here, and don’t forget to book your accommodation at the Best Western Premier Plaza Hotel & Conference Center.
