The world is finally slowly starting to open up again and, with summer in full force, it’s a perfect time to enjoy all the outdoor events taking place in and around Tacoma. From a craft beer festival to celebrations of Native culture at local museums, there is no shortage of great things to do this month.

In The Spirit Arts Market & Northwest Native Festival

Take in some local history with the annual In The Spirit Arts Market & Northwest Native Festival. The annual event is back, taking place in-person on Sunday, August 7 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at three local museums: the Washington State History Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, and Museum of Glass. The festival celebrates the diverse Native cultures of the region, with a wide variety of activities including art-making (where you can make your own prints buttons, and corn husk dolls), live music performances, compelling exhibitions, and an arts market where you can shop for original art, jewelry, textiles, and more. Food (including fry bread tacos) and beverages are available for purchase. The festival is all-ages and free to attend.

Tacoma Beer Week

Washington is one of the country’s most coveted purveyors of craft beer, wine, and craft ciders. Tacoma’s much-loved and highly anticipated annual Beer Week kicks off on August 7, with a variety of events celebrating the best of all things locally brewed taking place at venues around the city. Brew Five Three To Go kicks it all off on August 7, where attendees choose from four tasting kits that feature a variety of different cans and bottles, including a special Beer Week brew. The festivities close out with the Peaks and Pints 2021 Pacific Northwest Cider Invitational on August 15, with over 20 craft ciders and cider cocktails representing Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Lakewood Summer Nights at the Pavilion

Held every Thursday throughout August at Fort Steilacoom Park in nearby Lakewood, this concert series is the perfect way to spend a summer evening. The all-ages music festival features a great lineup of local artists across a variety of genres, from R&B to blues, and even includes an Eagles tribute band! Social distancing is required and space may be limited.
